Global Research

At the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, Lake Tahoe is both a treasured ecosystem to protect and a living laboratory for discovery. The long-term data, real-time monitoring, and interdisciplinary research we conduct here allow us to develop, test, and refine scientific understanding of how lakes respond to environmental change. We use this knowledge not only to safeguard Tahoe, but also to inform communities working to protect their own freshwater resources. By applying lessons learned in the Sierra Nevada to lake systems and climate challenges worldwide—including in the polar regions—we extend our impact far beyond the Tahoe Basin, helping communities anticipate and adapt to the realities of a warming planet.
