TERC Fireside Chat: The Importance and Future of Lake Tahoe Science Education in Challenging Times
About this Event:
Please join us for an intimate and exclusive evening with the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center. In addition to fabulous food and wine, the event will feature a fireside chat-style panel discussion, moderated by SF Gate Tahoe Editor Julie Brown Davis, examining the importance of science education and outreach in the efforts to protect the Tahoe Basin and the future of TERC's education mission in these uncertain funding times. The panel will feature TERC team members Director Stephanie Hampton, Education and Outreach Director Heather Segale, and former AmeriCorps member and current research associate Mahren Hudson.
The panel will examine why education and outreach are core tenets of protecting Lake Tahoe for future generations, how TERC’s education efforts have served the community over the last two decades, and what the fight to protect Lake Tahoe would lose if our education offerings and efforts to train future scientists and educators cannot be maintained.
This is especially timely, as many threats facing Lake Tahoe cannot be addressed without science education and outreach, particularly in preventing the introduction of new and devastating aquatic invasive species into the lake.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a fun, slightly competitive, and hands-on science investigation that will highlight the importance of science education for all.
