Welcome to the lab. All lab workers at the University of California need to take some basic lab safety training before they are allowed to work in a lab.
You will need to pass the UC Fundamentals of Laboratory Safety. You can take the class as many times as you need to until you pass it.
If you get an error like this:

You will need to email the Staff Development and request a Learning Center Account so you can take the UC Fundamentals of Laboratory Safety course.
- Then you will need to review the hazard assessment and take the PPE training. Click on the appropriate lab for the link:

Read the page and click the 'Continue' Button on the top right of the pane until you have reviewed all the pages with hazard for this lab. Then review the PPE requirements under outcomes.
If you get an error here, you need to be added the lab roster before you can accomplish this step. Contact your PI or lab manager to get added the lab.

- Then under 'Next Steps' at the bottom of the right pane, you can take your PPE training:

- Online Safety Training (Can be completed prior to first day on-site, Must Print Certificate of Completion)
- Then read or watch the following campus safety documents:
- Lab Safety Manual
- Safety Net 13 Guidelines for Chemical Spill Control
- Safety Net 8 Chemical Waste Disposal Guidelines
- Or take the Hazardous Waste Management and Minimization class
- Then read the following departmental safety documents
- Illness and Injury Protection Program
- Emergency Action Plan
- Chemical Hygiene Plan
- OSHA Inspection Training
- Reporting Work-Connected Fatalities and Serious Injuries
- Near Miss Reporting Systems
- Active Shooter Training
- Then print out the Proof of Training Form and check the check boxes and sign the bottom of the page.
- Bring the signed Proof of Training Form your Department Safety Coordinator so they can complete the rest of the On-Site Training with you.
