Steve Katz is a scientist with diverse interests.  Much of that diversity has been spawned by an atypical career that includes stops as staff scientist and manager at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, faculty at Washington State University, and private industry working on energy efficiency programs with the California Public Utilities.  Dr. Katz has been a researcher in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at UC Davis since 2025.  Recent research has focused on the management of instream flows to support fish and wildlife via habitat restoration and optimizing dam operations in the face of variable and changing precipitation regimes.
